I am probably considered a terrible reader from the standpoint of those who truly love books, because if I do not like a book, or it does not hold me in, I just read the end and put it back on the shelf. I hate forcing myself to read books that I do not like, and I almost always read the end first to make sure that I am not going to finally get to the end, to hate it.
I have been reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Marry Anne Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I chose this book at on a recommendation from a family friend, who absolutely loved it, and because the cover was beautiful (I know, terrible reason). When I read the plot summary, it seemed interesting, but very different from anything I had read before, which drew me in even more. I am looking forward to figuring out where this funny title came from, because I know Guernsey is the place in which Juliet is traveling on her quasi-book expedition to figure out what her next novel should be about. I am curious about the potatoes, and how they could play an important enough role to make it into the title. Another aspect that I want to find in this book is, as of now these are letters from Juliet and her friend Sydney, however I know from reading the plot summary on the inside cover that eventually the letters will be Juliet and an unknown man. I am curious the role he will play in helping her discover this new place, and the history of Guernsey in WWII. The best part of reading a book like this is I have never read a book completely made in the epistolary form, and it really lets me imagine and make up my own opinions because it does not give the amount of descriptive detail that a normal novel would. I have really liked that because I can really use my own imagination to make up the detail and describe the people and scenery.
