What is your reading identity? (For example, are you a voracious reader? a reluctant reader? a former reader? a reading addict or a reading novice?) Write a brief description of how you would describe yourself as a reader. Give an example to support the reading identity you describe for yourself.
-In all honesty, I believe I am a reading novice. Generally, books do not keep my attention unless they are of a genre that I like. I’d love to expand more and read different types of books
Write a paragraph in which you discuss the current book you are reading. Give the author and title. If possible, find an image of your book, like the cover or any other relevant image, and put it in your blog entry (be sure to site your source from the web.)
-I am currently reading Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. Liz is fifteen, about to turn sixteen. She has a pug and a seventeen year old brother. The book takes place following an unidentified (at least in the first few pages) accident that killed Liz. She narrates from a boat, and he book takes us through as she slowly comes to terms with what has happened to her.
Why did you choose this book?
-I chose this book because the back side of the book had a letter written by Elizabeth written on it that pulled me in, in addition to the cover.
What was your first encounter with reading the book like?
-When I read the first few pages of the book, I was very confused as to what was going on. I had a difficult time understanding who was narrating the novel in the first couple of pages, only to realize that it was Lizzie’s dog. In the following chapter, Lizzie narrates.
What are you looking forward to as you get further into this book?
-I’m looking forward to further understanding Liz’s predicament- why is Lizzie dead? Did she get into an accident of sorts? Who is Thandi and why does she have a bullethole in her head? Are they in heaven? Where is the boat taking them..?
